Vishal Devgan, born (April 2, 1969 in Delhi, India), popularly known as Ajay Devgan is a two-time National Film Award-winning actor who appears in Bollywood films। Beginning as an action hero in the early 1990s, Devgan matured early in his career, and is widely regarded now as one of the finest and most serious actors of the Indian industry।
Biography
He is originally from Punjab. His father is Veeru Devgan, a stunt choreographer and his brother, Anil Devgan, is a Bollywood film director.
He is a graduate of bapu school in Juhu & Mithibai College.
His debut film Phool Aur Kaante, where he played opposite Amrish Puri, won him a Filmfare Best Debut Award. Though his earlier movies were of action genre, he broke this trend after starring in the comedy Ishq in 1997.
This was followed by critically and commercially successful films. In 1998, he was the leading actor in Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha which was one of the biggest hits of that year. He also starred in Mahesh Bhatt's Zakhm. The film was a highly acclaimed picture, as well as his performance in it, and he won many award, including the prestigious National Film Award for Best Actor and a Star Screen Award Best Actor. Sanjay Leela Bhansali signed him for the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), which was also critically acclaimed and Devgan received a nomination for Filmfare Best Actor Award. His association with Ram Gopal Varma was notable, resulted in critically acclaimed projects like the Drama Company (2002) and the horror film Bhoot (2003). 2002 proved to be a very good one for Devgan, as the mentioned Company won him his second Star Screen Award Best Actor and he won his second National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Rajkumar Santoshi's The Legend of Bhagat Singh
Since then, he has worked in many critically appreciated films, like Yuva, Raincoat, which did not do as well at the box office.
Recently he has worked in successful films like Kaal, Golmaal and played the title role in the critically acclaimed adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello titled Omkara.
Ajay had 2 releases back to back in August 2007. His first release Cash failed at the box office. His second release was RGV KI AAG. Which was the remake of the indian cinema landmark SHOLAY. The film got poor reviews and was a box office washout.
After enacting various roles in his acting career, he is now going to direct his first Hindi movie titled U, Me Aur Hum which is supposed to be produced by Kumar Mangat and star Kajol.
During the 2004 elections, Ajay Devgan had briefly joined BJP.
Personal life
Devgan married the successful actress Kajol on February 24, 1999. They have one daughter, Nysa Mukherjee-Devgan, who was born on April 20, 2003।Television
In 2005, he appeared on the TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati (the Indian version of Who wants to be a millionaire?) hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. He was paired with his wife Kajol. They won 1 crore (10 million) rupees and donated them to a cancer hospital in Chennai.Awards and nominations
